POWW veterans celebrate 800 game milestone

Peter ‘Digger’ Holmes played his 800th game for the Prince of Wales Wellington Hockey Club at the end of the 2010 winter season. Only ten games later Digger was joined by Robert ‘Bob’ Harris who played his 800th during the Men’s Veterans summer roster.
In typical fashion Digger refused to allow the Club to celebrate his achievement until Bob also reached the milestone.
Digger joined the Prince of Wales Hockey Club as a nine year old and he has been an immense contributor to the Club through his work as an administrator, official, coach and player for over 40years. The ultimate goal sneak/striker Digger is renown for his ‘never say die’ and competitive attitude. In a recent season playing in a premiership winning fourth grade team Digger scored 76 goals. While impressive, no one in the Club was really surprised. Digger is a Life Member of Prince of Wales Wellington Hockey Club.
Bob Harris started playing for the Club when he joined the Under 18 squad and became a true journeyman. Bob says, “I played 22 years of hockey for the Club and never saw a grand final, let alone win one. I loved the game and just enjoyed the play and the people in the entire hockey community. Now Digger and I have played over 1,600 games and have played in a total of 26 Grand Final wins for the Club.” Bob is the current Club President.
Bob and Digger are both in their fifties, still playing competitively in the current Men’s Veterans season and have no plans to retire
